S&ME performed geotechnical and environmental services and is completing construction materials testing and Special Inspection services for the new Forsyth County Courthouse currently under construction in Winston-Salem, NC.

The original limestone three-story building was built in 1926. The new Courthouse is being built on the site of an old tobacco processing facility that has been demolished for many years.  Once the new Courthouse is complete, the new five to six-story steel-framed courthouse will incorporate office space courtroom space, parking, and a daylight basement. A below-grade tunnel is also planned to connect the Courthouse to the adjacent jail facility beneath North Chestnut Street.

This site is part of a US Environmental Protection Agency-funded Brownfields Agreement. Site soils were required to be excavated and removed per an Environmental Management Plan, and ponded water required testing for contaminants.

Guilford County School 2020 Bond Program

The Guilford County Schools 2020 Bond Program is funding a $300 million project to build eight new schools in the area. Kiser Middle School and Brooks Global Elementary are two projects our S&ME team is contributing to as part of the Bond Program.

Kiser Middle School

Kiser Middle SchoolThe new Kiser Middle School in Greensboro, North Carolina, will have a layout of approximately 180,000 square feet. The school structures will consist of two- and three-story buildings with drive and parking areas.

Our team completed geotechnical exploration services and will complete construction materials testing and Special Inspection services. Our team’s geotechnical exploration explored the general subsurface conditions within the planned development area and evaluated those conditions regarding site grading, foundation design, pavements, and construction.

Brooks Global Elementary School

Brooks Elementary SchoolThe new Brooks Global Elementary School in Greensboro, North Carolina will consist of 80,000 square feet of building space with one or two stories. Considering the anticipated building loads and typical subsurface conditions in the project area, the new school structure is anticipated to be supported on shallow spread foundations.

Brooks Elementary SchoolS&ME performed geotechnical and environmental services and will perform construction materials testing and Special Inspection services.
