Sorrell Landfill

S&ME assisted this client in finalizing closure requirements for a subtitle-D landfill in accordance with NCDENR-DWM guidelines. Our landfill closure services included site capping recommendations, verification, and preparation of a water quality monitoring plan (WQMP). S&ME also prepared a final closure and post closure care plan. Field activities included soil cap thickness testing, installation of new monitoring wells, hydraulic conductivity tests of the new wells and sampling of the site monitor wells to establish baseline water quality.

S&ME managed all aspects of post-closure compliance including semi-annual water quality monitoring and quarterly methane monitoring. Our professionals designed and implemented corrective actions to address excessive gas levels at the compliance boundary. In addition, we provided characterization of groundwater impacts in order to develop remedial corrective actions. Finally, S&ME provided environmental compliance monitoring of groundwater and surface water.
