Mountain Parkway Expansion
S&ME has been retained by Palmer Engineering as part of the Bizzack Construction Design Build Team to provide geotechnical services for the design of the Mountain Parkway Expansion project, located in Magoffin County and Floyd County, Kentucky.
The Project includes a 13-mile extension of Mountain Parkway, divided into two sections. The Magoffin County Section generally runs from U.S. 460 in Salyersville, KY to State Road Fork, near the Magoffin/Floyd County line, as a four-lane, controlled access parkway along a new cross-country alignment. The Floyd County Section generally runs from State Road Fork in Floyd County to KY 404, near Middle Creek Battlefield in Prestonsburg, as a four-lane, controlled access parkway along a new cross-country alignment and includes a twin set of bridges over State Road Fork and Dry Bread Road.
This project will require an extensive geotechnical engineering, drilling, laboratory and analysis effort including rock cut slope design, mitigation of unreclaimed mineworks, embankment stability analyses and settlement analyses. A total of 50 cut areas and 50 embankment areas will be designed, with cut sections up to 250 feet deep and embankment fills up to 200 feet tall.
This project will enhance safety and improve access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities. Read more about the project.
