Coweta County Full Depth Reclamation

S&ME has served as Blount Construction Company’s Quality Assurance subcontractor for three consecutive years (from 2018 to 2020) of Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) roadway reconstruction projects. The combination of the 2018 through 2020 contracts included FDR repairs to over 65 miles of residential, rural,  and collector roads maintained by Coweta County.

S&ME visited each roadway and reviewed the existing pavement conditions. Afterwards, S&ME returned to the site and cored; measured pavement component thicknesses; and collected soil, asphalt, and base course stone samples from each roadway where repairs were planned. The obtained samples were transported to our Duluth, Georgia laboratory where they were reviewed and processed by our engineers and laboratory staff. The obtained samples were utilized to prepare FDR mix designs in our laboratory in general accordance with GDOT test methods. The results of the mix design testing allowed S&ME to provide Blount Construction with applicable cement spread rates to apply during FDR mixing.

During construction, S&ME observed daily FDR mixing and performed field thickness checks, gradation checks, and density testing on the compacted FDR road base in accordance with GDOT test methods. Field compressive strength samples were molded each day and were cured, and compression tested to determine the field strength of the FDR base before it was topped with new asphalt.
