Boeing Propulsion South Carolina
This 230-acre, aircraft assembly plant includes a 100 foot tall main assembly building. It also includes 44 acres of aircraft aprons and 25 acres of asphalt parking. In addition, the project included a half-mile long realignment of South Aviation Boulevard, entrance drives, and access roads.
Located on abandoned phosphate mines, site access was particularly challenging. S&ME planned and directed the geotechnical exploration, working with the design-build team to develop the most efficient options for site preparation and foundation design. S&ME also performed major QA construction testing and inspection program (including IBC Chapter 17 Special Inspections) for the project . S&ME also performed laboratory testing and a Site Specific Seismic Response Analysis were also performed.
During site preparation, our team directed undercutting operations, monitored controlled fill and concrete placement, inspected reinforcing steel in grade beams and inspected structural steel both at the fabrication shop and in the field.
