Water Infrastructure Funding Sources Explored

Financing water resources projects is a challenge for municipalities so knowing the sources of available funding can be invaluable information.  W. Scott McDonald, PE, Vice President and Planning + Design Area Manager, joined with Richard E. Glaze, Jr., a partner with Balch & Bingham’s Environmental & Natural Resources Practice to co-author an article, “Sources of Funding for Water Infrastructure.”

W. Scott McDonald, PEAccording to the article, traditional sources of funding for water infrastructure projects may now be supplemented through a federally administered program designed to expand available public financing. The Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act of 2014 (WIFIA) promises to be a significant funding source for water infrastructure programs by providing secured loans for eligible projects.

Published in the September/October 2017 edition of American Infrastructure, the article can be accessed through this link to the magazine’s website. The possibility of additional funding for much needed projects is a welcome read for those municipalities struggling to meet the high demand for drinking water and wastewater programs.
