Stewart Laney leads S&ME’s Design-Build endeavors. He is responsible for coordination and development of new design-build heavy civil and/or heavy highway opportunities throughout the US. This includes the qualification of opportunities based on S&ME business strategies, processes, systems as well as organization and leading S&ME pursuit teams. He has extensive experience with all phases of design-build projects from team development, accelerated design, Alternative Technical Concept production, and implementation, to post-design Value Engineering approval and contractor quality control.
A skilled engineer and consultant, Stewart is recognized for his keen sense for geotechnical innovation coupled with his depth of knowledge in constructability. Stewart joined S&ME in 2004 with 5 years of previous North Carolina Department of Transportation and consulting engineering experience. For the majority of his career he has served as a consulting engineer and project manager for a wide range of public and private projects. For three years while working for a specialty foundation and shoring contractor, Stewart served as Director of Engineering and Operations where he was responsible for all design and construction activities.
Stewart received a Bachelor of Science in construction engineering and a Master of Science in geotechnical engineering from North Carolina State University and is a licensed professional engineer in North Carolina and South Carolina. He is an active member of the Association of State Highway Engineers (ASHE), American Council of Engineering Companies Engineers (ACEC) and Design Build Institute of America (DBIA) where he has held leadership roles.
