Florida Nuclear Power Plant Siting Study

Nuclear Energy

S&ME performed subsurface exploration and laboratory testing services for Progress Energy’s Florida nuclear sites, siting evaluation.  Our work supported CH2M HILL’s geotechnical, geologic, and seismological evaluation services.  The team investigated six sites in five counties.

S&ME’s field services included drilling soil test borings using conventional hollow stem augering, wash boring, and mud rotary drilling methods.  The team also performed standard penetration testing and relatively undisturbed sampling of soil.  S&ME also analysed surface groundwater.

The laboratory testing  included petrographic analysis, unconfined compressive strength, and the elastic moduli of intact bedrock cores. Lab testing also included a unit weight of undisturbed soil samples, soil pH, organic content testing, particle size analysis, Atterberg Limits testing, and unconsolidated-undrained triaxial testing.
