Parks, Greenways and Recreational Facilities
S&ME provides planning and design services for parks, greenways, and recreational facilities of various sizes and complexities, including walking and nature trails, active and passive parks, botanical gardens, destination playgrounds, waterfronts, and specialty parks such as skate parks, dog parks, and storm water parks. Our design services include a broad range of sports and entertainment venues, including community, health, and wellness facilities; recreational training facilities, ballparks, fields, and stadiums.
We have considerable knowledge in the design and planning of greenways and linear parks. We are adept at the planning, design, and management of greenway developments linking natural areas to urban centers. S&ME has worked with communities and public agencies to promote economic growth and to improve the quality of life through the introduction of public open space and green infrastructure improvements. Our efforts have focused on how to link significant recreational, historical, educational and environmental sites within neighborhood boundaries. We incorporate universal design and accessibility concepts into all our design work to create environments that accommodate the wide ranging needs of the general public.
We integrate all of our services to create designs to meet our client’s program needs and enhance the overall needs of the community. We believe a park or greenway is more than just a facility. Parks express the unique spirit and character of a community, uniting as well as commemorating the valuable resources within that community. To that end, we make public visioning an integral part of our design process. We have experience with a broad range of community-based projects and also consider the development of parks and recreation spaces as one key to a city’s economic development strategy.
The goal of a greenway project is to link natural corridors to vital community resources such as parks, schools, shopping areas, and areas of employment. We examine the greenway network as one component in a community’s matrix of parks and community facilities, and how it can act as an economic stimulant, a centerpiece for new neighborhoods, and an alternative means of travel between home, school, work, shopping and entertainment. Trails can also provide connections to regional facilities as well as surrounding communities. Our efforts have focused on linking significant recreational, historical, educational and environmental sites within communities.
We can provide a wide range of planning and design solutions for:
