Whiteview Parkway and Trail

S&ME provided conceptual design services to the City of Palm Coast for a new one-mile trail along the existing Whiteview Parkway four-lane roadway. Through a charrette process, S&ME developed alternative concepts and associated opinions of probable construction costs for the accommodation of a trail, landscaping and a gateway sign element. In preparation for the design charrette, S&ME created base maps and collected comparable imagery of similar trail projects for discussion during the meeting. S&ME then hosted a one-day design charrette with key City staff and the City manager. At the conclusion of the design charrette, S&ME had created three alternatives with the proposed trail: positioning it in the center median; positioning it along the side of the road; or closing one of the existing traffic lanes to create a linear park environment for the trail. These products were then used by the City to identify a preferred design direction for the project. The preferred design solution was the Linear Park design. The plan includes seating areas, enhanced landscape and wayfinding.
