S&ME created two conceptual designs to redevelop the historic icon of Magnolia Square in Sanford. In designing the public plaza, input was gathered from the community, the City mayor, the City staff and the CRA Board. Color renderings and cost estimates were also prepared to accompany the conceptual designs. Through the public participation process, a final design was developed and constructed. Elements of the final design are in a traditional theme in keeping with the historic character of the area. These elements include a central fountain, raised landscape planters and site furnishings, such as benches, trash receptacles, lighting and wayfinding signage. Since the implementation of the design, the square now provides adequate shade, visual interest and ample seating for special events. Through our commitment to the design vision, the historic character of the surrounding area has been preserved.
