Big Pine Key Swimming Hole

S&ME developed the conceptual master plan to transform this man-made borrow pit into a community park. The plan included direct access to North Pine Channel, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Atlantic Ocean. A public workshop for area residents was held to present elements of the development program. Based on public input and Monroe County direction, S&ME developed a plan best fit for the community. The plan included boardwalks, kayak launch areas, swimming access, and natural trails. In addition, the plan involves connection to the Overseas Heritage Trail, observation towers, shade pavilions, vehicular parking, and future concession building. S&ME’s efforts included environmental permitting, surveying, civil engineering, landscape architecture, and coordination with the Florida Department of Transportation.
