Master Planning

Visualization of a project prior to schematic design leads to improved decision making and more efficient, sustainable designs. Seeing how the project interacts with a site, the possible constraints that may be encountered, and exploring a number of scenarios can improve communication and coordination between the development team, and streamline the process during subsequent design and development.

S&ME provides master planning services for complex issues of land use planning and design for both public and private development. We develop strategies for cost-effective use of resources that enhance the environment. We provide technical expertise to evaluate alternative scenarios, identify problems, and create workable solutions that meet our client’s needs. S&ME professionals provide initial development master planning, visualization, and stakeholder interaction.

When evaluating options, S&ME considers the whole-life value and not limited to the short term initial investment. Factors that affect the longer term costs of a facility, such as maintainability, useful service life, and sustainability/resource consumption are integrated into Opinions of Probable Cost and through rigorous value engineering.

We strategically form teams by selecting only highly qualified firms and specialized consultants to manage the specific needs of our client and to deliver a seamless organizational structure that carries forth our client’s vision from initial planning through design and construction. Our design professionals includes urban planners, landscape architects, economic and community development planners, civil engineers, and preservation planners that contribute a unique perspective and depth of specialized project experience.

S&ME has considerable experience in the master planning, engineering and design of historical areas and downtown streetscapes throughout the US.
