Environmental Policy Statement

S&ME believes it has an important duty to reduce its impact on the environment in all aspects of S&ME’s business units and to provide the necessary organization, commitment and training to fulfill this duty. Executive and senior management firmly believes in and is committed to monitoring and improving environmental performance, pollution prevention, waste minimization, and sustainability.

THIS DUTY WILL BE ADDRESSED IN THE FOLLOWING MANNER:

We will create an EMS policy that follows the Environmental Policy Act (EPA) basics:

  • Reviewing and setting our environmental goals;
  • Analyzing our environmental impacts and compliance obligations (or legal and other requirements);
  • Setting environmental objectives and targets to reduce environmental impacts and conform with compliance obligations;
  • Establishing programs to meet these objectives and targets;
  • Monitoring and measuring progress in achieving the objectives;
  • Ensuring employees’ environmental awareness and competence; and,
  • Reviewing progress of the EMS and achieving improvements.

All employees will be responsible for contributing to the successful implementation of this Policy by adopting it as an integral part of their administrative and operational planning and work execution, and by providing suggestions for improvement.

This Policy Statement is communicated to all employees, is posted in each operating location, and is published on S&ME’s website. The objectives will be achieved through development and implementation of an Environmental Management System which is being piloted in Tennessee.
