Mr. Shannon Sweitzer joined S&ME in 2012 as the Director of Transportation with a focus to foster and expand the firm’s extensive engineering and technical services in the delivery of transportation projects. Shannon offers an extensive background in major transportation projects where he has been active in all aspects of the project delivery process, from planning to construction oversight. Shannon embraces the employee-centric atmosphere within S&ME and consistently emphasizes the need for each employee’s professional and technical growth. “With constant advancements occurring in the transportation industry, furthering one’s knowledge and technical skills keeps you current and forward-thinking; otherwise, you are going backward in this dynamic marketplace.”
Shannon enjoyed 20 years of previous employment with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), holding various positions including State Roadway Construction Engineer. During his last five years with NCDOT, Shannon was Director of Construction for the North Carolina Turnpike Authority, where he was responsible for delivering the Turnpike’s large-scale Design-Build projects.
Shannon received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University, a Master of Business Administration from Meredith College, and is a licensed professional engineer in North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, and West Virginia. He is a active within the Transportation Research Board (TRB) and Design Build Institute of America (DBIA), where he has held leadership roles.
