GEOTECHNICAL SITE CHARACTERIZATION
Geotechnical or Subsurface Explorations to obtain information and data for the design of foundation systems, pavement systems, earthen structures and cut slopes and embankments. Explorations include the use of field and laboratory testing.
Soil Test Boring and Rock Coring to provide basic and detailed information on subsurface conditions and to provide data for developing geotechnical recommendations. This can include standard penetration tests, cone penetrometer testing, vane shear testing and Menard pressure-meter testing. It can also provide recovery of relatively undisturbed samples, recovery of rock samples through diamond bit coring and others.
Geophysical Explorations to provide site condition information to supplement the routine subsurface exploration program or soil test borings. Geophysical exploration techniques most often used include the seismic testing, seismic refraction exploration and electrical resistivity exploration procedures.
S&ME performed geotechnical site characterization services for the Westvaco Plant Site; to create a “roadway” for an 8.8 million pound dragline.
