Se7en Wetlands Park & Trail

As part of a continuing services agreement with the City of Lakeland, S&ME assisted the City’s Parks and Recreation Department and Water Utilities Department in designing a passive recreation master plan for the City’s 1,600-acre wetlands water treatment facility. The facility is comprised of a series of wetlands, marshes and open waters, which provide a sequence of treatment to the wastewater prior to discharge into the Alafia River. S&ME developed a 22-mile trail system, interpretive venues and an environmental educational learning center that tells the story of the facility.

S&ME is assisting the City with construction documents in an ongoing multi-phase implementation program. The first phase of the master plan that was implemented included two restroom buildings, a group picnic/educational pavilion; a boardwalk overlooking the influent station; and three miles of trails.

Phase II includes another 1.5 miles of trails and a 500 ft. boardwalk.
