Lakeland Skate Park

Through our continuing services agreement, the City of Lakeland engaged S&ME to work with the Lakeland Skaters Alliance, a local advocacy group, to create a new skate park for the community. Teamed with Team Pain, S&ME toured other skate parks with City staff and skaters from the local community to develop a design that reflected the desires of the users through a series of open houses. The completed skate park boasts unique features and amenities, including shade structure “living rooms” with concrete couches and tables; green space within the skate area; a vending machine/equipment enclosure with custom graphic wrap; and an interior/exterior entry plaza to accommodate skaters before and after the park opens.

In addition to the other custom designed amenities, S&ME developed the pedestrian gateway into the Lakeland Skate Park. The illuminated entry feature rises above the interior plaza and includes abstract skateboard finials. S&ME worked closely with a local fabricator to advance the project from concept through fabrication.
