The Market Common Myrtle Beach-Phase 1

The 114-acre urban village was part of the redevelopment of the Myrtle Beach International Airport complex. The pedestrian-friendly lifestyle center offers a mix of specialty retail, restaurant, and residential dwellings. The project involved approximately $30 million of new infrastructure. In addition, the site includes 29 acres of lakes, new community parks, and four miles of new roads.

S&ME provided geotechnical services during the design and construction of Phase I. Our services included foundation and seismic structural design. Our team also performed international Building Code, Chapter 17, Special Inspections for soils, concrete, masonry and structural steel. A significant aspect of the project involved the improved Seismic Design Category (SDC) as well as the use of shall foundation alternatives in three of the four-story structures. As a result, the total estimated savings on the project was over three million.
