Joe C. Davis YMCA Camp Widjiwagan
Widjiwagan is an Ojibwa word meaning “close, lifelong friend.” The 300-acre Day Camp, located at the Joe C. Davis YMCA Outdoor Center is designed to provide a variety of family-oriented recreational activities. These include an expanded waterfront, an equestrian center, Alpine Tower, Airnasium, high ropes course, and many sports and athletic fields.
S&ME’s involvement began at the master planning stages in 1995. Services include extending access and utility improvements to remote portions of the site. S&ME also completed design documents, permitting and approvals through the US Army Corps of Engineers for irrigation raw water withdrawal from the adjoining Percy Priest Lake. Most recently, S&ME provided civil engineering and landscape architectural design for the the Nelson Andrews Leadership Center. Project required close regulatory coordination and design around winter/summer pool fluctuations.
