Nashville, TN – S&ME earned a 2013 Honors Award from ACEC-TN on March 5th for improvements to a former brownfield site. Chattanooga staff provided environmental services, including assessment, identification of grant funds, development of brownfield clean-up alternatives and recommendations for a selected remedy, as well as regulatory coordination for the Former Lockhart Brownfield Site in downtown Chattanooga.

The project would not have been accomplished without the EPA grant monies, which provided an 80% match to the owner funds. The selected remedy used risk-based methods and an integrated cleanup approach to reduce the volume of soil requiring transportation to and off-site disposal in landfills, reduce subgrade preparation, and provide an environmentally safer site for the Main Street district… another building block in the Main Street revitalization.
