S&ME performed construction material engineering and testing services for the Montgomery Park Albemarle Greenway. S&ME services for this project included testing and observation on the soils.
S&ME’s engineering technicians performed proofrolling of subgrade soils in future pavement areas, soil density testing to confirm required compaction, visual soil classifications to confirm suitability of fill material, laboratory proctor tests for maximum dry density, optimum moisture content.
S&ME observed proofrolling of the aggregate base course (ABC) stone placed within the proposed greenway path. S&ME observed various areas to be unstable under the loaded dump truck. S&ME recommended repairing the unstable areas and re-evaluate the areas prior to asphalt placement. The repair options may include undercutting and replacing the ABC stone and/or subgrade soils or placing a geogrid and additional ABC stone, depending on the location.
