02/23/07
Raleigh, NC - S&ME, an 800-member engineering and environmental services company, has announced key staff changes in its Region 1, which comprises offices in Raleigh, Greensboro, Wilmington and Fayetteville in North Carolina and Richmond, Virginia.
The firm, headquartered in Raleigh, was founded in 1973 and also operates North Carolina offices in Charlotte, Asheville and Mooresville.
Wes Lowder, P.E., has been named manager of the region, replacing Randy Neuhaus, executive vice president. Neuhaus will now focus more closely on executive duties and heading the firm’s marketing efforts.
Lowder, who has M.S. and B.S. degrees in civil engineering from North Carolina State University, was previously manager of the Raleigh branch. He has been with S&ME for more than 20 years and also managed offices in Greenville, South Carolina and Asheville.
Lowder is an S&ME vice president and member of the firm’s board of directors. In his new role, he will consult with the region’s branch managers on overall planning, marketing strategies, client relationships and many other issues.
Replacing Lowder as Raleigh branch manager is Keith C. Brown, P.E., who was manager of S&ME’s Greensboro office. Brown, also with bachelors and masters degrees in civil engineering from North Carolina State, has been with S&ME since 1994, and was formerly manager of Raleigh’s geotechnical department.
Brown has extensive experience in geotechnical engineering and has been project manager for numerous major projects including the Streets at Southpoint mall, the Dollar General distribution center in South Boston, Virginia, a Nortel facility in the Research Triangle Park, and a Hannaford distribution center in Butner.
Brian C. Glidewell, P.E., succeeds Brown as manager of S&ME’s Greensboro branch. Glidewell joined S&ME in 1994 after graduating from North Carolina State University with a B.S. degree in civil engineering. He started as a staff professional in the construction services department of S&ME’s Raleigh branch.
A year later Glidewell was transferred to S&ME’s Asheville branch to manage its construction services department. He directed that same service area in the Greensboro branch for the past eight years. Projects under his supervision include wastewater treatment plants, dams, power generation facilities, university projects, parking decks and commercial facilities.
Succeeding Glidewell as construction services manager is Chris Busch, P.E. who holds a B.S. degree in civil engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He joined S&ME in 2006 as a project manager after nine years of previous experience.
Busch is experienced in geotechnical investigations, foundation testing and inspection and construction materials testing and inspection. He has been a geotechnical engineer on the Terminal C expansion at Raleigh-Durham International Airport and has worked on hospital additions, marine navigational towers and commercial and housing projects.
Also in Greensboro, Matt Moler, P.E. a foundations/geotechnical engineer experienced in project management, has been named manager of the branch geotechnical department. Moler has an M.S. degree in geotechnical engineering from Virginia Tech and a B.S. in civil and environmental engineering from West Virginia University. He joined S&ME in 2002.
Moler is experienced in geotechnical engineering, construction engineering and forensic services. He has worked on an award-winning landfill project, parking decks, office buildings, housing developments, and commercial, local government and institutional projects of many types.
Moler succeeds Scott Hancock, P.E., who has 31 years of experience, including 8 with S&ME. Hancock will now serve as S&ME’s chief engineer in Greensboro, and was also recently named an S&ME technical principal.
Brian C. McKean, P.E., has been named Construction Services department manager for S&ME’s Fayetteville branch.
McKean holds a B.S. degree in civil engineering from the University of Florida. He joined S&ME in its Charlotte branch in 2000. McKean is experienced in project management, geotechnical engineering, construction services, laboratory testing, slope stability and seismic refraction. In Charlotte, McKean worked on projects involving residential development, an eight-story parking deck and office buildings.
S&ME, founded in 1973, operates 22 branches in the Southeast. The firm has won 60 Engineering Excellence Awards from state chapters of the American Council of Engineering Companies and is ranked in the Top 100 Pure Design Firms by Engineering-News Record magazine.
