S&ME on top U.S. environmental-firm list

Raleigh, NC – Raleigh-based environmental, engineering and testing firm S&ME, Inc. has again been ranked among the nation’s top 200 environmental companies by a national publication.

The rankings, based on the company’s gross revenues for providing environmental engineering and related services during 2004, are compiled from an annual survey conducted by Engineering News-Record (ENR) magazine. S&ME placed 140th among U.S. firms.

S&ME’s environmental services include hazardous waste and Superfund issues, environmental assessments, brownfields, natural resources management, occupational health and safety programs, stormwater management, remedial design and operations, storage tank management and air quality and water resources management.

Earlier this year, S&ME placed 91st nationwide on ENR’s Top 100 Pure Design list, which ranks those engineering firms which do not provide construction. The company was also 136th on the Top 500 Design firm. These lists were based on total gross revenues.

S&ME was founded in Raleigh in 1973 and employs about 700 professionals and support staff in 20 cities in the Carolinas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. North Carolina offices are in Raleigh, Asheville, Charlotte, Fayetteville, Greensboro and Wilmington.

In the past decade, S&ME has won approximately 50 Engineering Excellence Awards in state competitions sponsored by the American Council of Engineering Companies. The firm specializes in geotechnical engineering, construction materials engineering and testing, environmental services and occupational health and safety. Projects have included major airports, bridges, highways, dams, military installations, a variety of commercial facilities and an NFL stadium.
