S&ME expands its presence in Virginia with
an office in Hampton Roads

Norfolk, VA - The engineering and environmental consulting firm, S&ME, Inc. has opened an office in Norfolk, VA to serve the Hampton Roads region.

The Norfolk office, operating as a satellite of the firm’s, Richmond branch, is due in part to S&ME’s involvement in the Craney Island Eastward Expansion Project. A dual purpose project, the Craney Island Eastward Expansion will extend the life of Craney Island as a dredged material placement area, as well as, provide land for the construction of a new 580-acre, $2.2 billion marine terminal.

S&ME is part of the Craney Island Design Partners that was awarded the project. The firm will be providing soil characterization services and geotechnical consulting for the project. S&ME is contracted through the Army Corps of Engineers – Norfolk District to complete the proposed work.

Aaron Zdinak, P.E., will lead the new office. An alumnus of the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech, Zdinak has over 10 years experience with geotechnical consulting and project management of transportation and municipal projects throughout Virginia.

Formerly Virginia Geotechnical Services, S&ME’s Richmond branch has had a presence in Virginia since 1987. In the past 20 years, it has provided services for several high profile transportation and environmental permitting projects. The addition of the Norfolk office will help S&ME better serve its existing Hampton Roads clients.

S&ME, founded in 1973, employs 850 professionals and support staff in 22 offices in the Southeast. The firm has won 60 Engineering Excellence Awards from state chapters of the American Council of Engineering Companies and is ranked in the Top 100 Pure Design Firms by Engineering-News Record magazine.
